Our History

The Centro Colombo Americano of Pereira is a non-profit cultural institution, whose main objective is to promote cultural and academic exchange between the United States, Colombia and other countries.

It was founded on February 26, 1968 by a group of local citizens who saw the need to offer English language acquisition to the community.  The institution acquired legal status on June 11, 1968, by decision No 1377 issued by the State Government of Risaralda.

The Centro provides various services, such as teaching English, cultural activities (such as art exhibitions, concerts, seminars, and conferences) and counseling services for student exchange programs for young graduates, academics and professionals who wish to study in the U.S.

Since its founding, the Centro Colombo Americano has gained status as an important entity in the cultural and academic sectors of the region as the result of dynamism, teaching quality, and promotion of artistic and cultural events.

In the academic field the Colombo has implemented a program of continuous improvement through the ongoing training of human talent.

Agreements with educational institutions, such as the University Foundation of Andina, has allowed the Colombo to decentralize its services and to expand its coverage of English instruction.

The Library and Resource Center represents a valuable contribution to the region and support centers specializing in English language practice and the acquisition of information in various areas.
